Since International Telecoms Week (ITW), the annual meeting for the global telecoms industry, moved to Atlanta this year, we thought we’d help attendees get to know the lay of the land—and our HQ—a little better. After all, we’ve had the privilege to put our stamp here—one fiber mile at a time.
Follow the fiber
From the time you step off the plane at Hartsfield International Airport (ATL), you’re following near the path of our organically-grown, diverse fiber network that runs south of the airport and continues north through the bustling downtown metro area in view of popular Atlanta icons such as The World of Coca-Cola, Georgia Aquarium, and the College Football Hall of Fame.
Nearly ninety percent of our fiber sits three and a half feet deep underground, instead of just under the surface or in aerial deployments, and spans further north of the city into the growing tech-centered suburbs of Roswell, Duluth, and Alpharetta. Alpharetta, known as the ‘technology city of the south’ is home to FiberLight’s corporate headquarters. More than just a northern suburb of Atlanta, Forbes named Alpharetta the number one place to relocate and in 2012, Alpharetta was the six fastest growing city in the U.S. Increasing our commitment and contribution to the Alpharetta tech-hub, we recently announced our planned corporate relocation to Northwinds Summit, the area’s first 100 percent fiber-fed business park—a 24-acre mixed-use development in Alpharetta with 180,000 square feet of office space as well as a boutique hotel, multifamily units and condos, and 15,000 square feet of restaurants and amenity retail. High-count, dark fiber will be installed throughout the park, providing tenants immediate access to dedicated, high-capacity networks to quickly scale cloud connectivity, internet, or other transport services with one or multiple 1Gbps to 100Gbps connections.
