The Portuguese Environment Authorities have approved the Environmental Compliance Report for the SIN02 to SIN06 phase of the SINES Data Campus Project. This Project has also been recently granted additional power capacity to reach 1.2 GW of AI-scale IT load, becoming Europe’s largest co-location data center campus. Obtaining this compliance report testifies that the project’s execution aligns with all environmental conditions and mitigation measures outlined in the EIA approval, as previously obtained by Start Campus. As customary, this report remains subject to some conditions, which the company’s team will work on addressing in due course.
This exciting outcome is another step in building the most sustainable co-location data center campus in Europe (aiming to be net zero by 2030), based 90 km south of Lisbon and connected to the largest and most far-reaching deep-sea and land cable network in the world, spanning all the world’s inhabited continents.
With the issuance of this Environmental Compliance report, Start Campus has now secured all critical resources for the development of this project.
The SINES campus boasts unrivaled connectivity and a new industry-leading PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) of 1.1 and WUE (Water Usage Effectiveness) of 0. The development has a planned total investment in excess of €8 billion, generating over 9,000 jobs for the local community.
As a company committed to building sustainable and AI-scale digital infrastructure, Start Campus showcases with its SINES development pioneering liquid cooling solutions coupled with the most advanced sustainable building techniques to meet the global demand for data. Portugal continues to attract interest from across the global Tech industry as its strategic geographic location, robust renewable power base and EU jurisdiction sets it apart from other locations.
