ST DIGITAL, a leading African-based company specializing in digital transformation and data center services, has announced a significant milestone in its journey toward advancing digital infrastructure in Central Africa. The company’s DLA01 Data Center, located in Douala, Littoral, has achieved the prestigious DC OIX-2 certification, marking it as one of the first data center providers in Central Africa to attain this status. This certification, granted by the Open-IX Association (OIX), a globally recognized peer-reviewed standards body, is a testament to ST DIGITAL’s commitment to upholding the highest standards in data center interconnection and operation.

The DLA01 facility is a landmark in the region, as it is the first carrier-neutral, tier 3-built data center in Central Africa. This means it offers enhanced reliability, scalability, and superior performance to its clients. Additionally, it houses the Douala Internet Exchange (DOUALA-IX), an open and neutral peering point that treats every network operator with fairness. DOUALA-IX, which has also earned IXP OIX-1 certification, aims to boost regional Internet connectivity and performance by leveraging its strategic geographic location and access to international and regional fiber optic cables.

By achieving both the DC OIX-2 and IXP OIX-1 certifications, ST DIGITAL’s facility exceeds best-in-class standards, setting a new benchmark for data center interconnection in the region.

ST DIGITAL’s DOUALA-IX facility fosters robust interconnection with several prominent regional and international operators. These include AFRI-IX Telecom, CAMIX NAP, INQ Digital Cameroon SA, Opex Network, and SWECOM, among others. This extensive network of peering relationships is crucial for enhancing connectivity, reducing latency, and ensuring reliable data transfer across the region.

Commenting on this achievement, Chris Grundemann, Chairman of the OIX Association, expressed his excitement, “We are thrilled to welcome ST DIGITAL as the first African-based data center and Internet Exchange to achieve both DC OIX-2 and IXP OIX-1 certification. Over the past decade, we have worked diligently to shape industry best practices, and it’s encouraging to see companies in Africa embrace these global standards.”

Carine DJOMO, General Manager of ST DIGITAL Cameroon/Congo, also highlighted the significance of this accomplishment, stating, “Achieving these certifications demonstrates our ability to meet the highest physical and operational standards. Our customers can expect faster, more stable, and cost-effective data delivery, ultimately enhancing the end-user experience.”

ST DIGITAL’s achievement of the DC OIX-2 certification sets a new standard for the data center industry in Central Africa. With a commitment to delivering world-class services and advancing the region’s digital infrastructure, the company is well-positioned to play a pivotal role in the future of data connectivity in Africa.
