Data Center POST had the opportunity to connect with Josh Snowhorn, Founder and CEO of Quantum Loophole. Josh is a seasoned industry expert with over 20 years of experience in the Mission Critical space and has disrupted data center site selection by offering a rapid platform delivery for land, power, connectivity, and scale. Learn more about Josh’s plans for Quantum Loophole in his Metro Connect USA 23 interview below.

Data Center POST (DCP) Question: Metro Connect USA 2023 is the 22nd annual event. What are you most looking forward to at the event this year?

Josh Snowhorn, Founder and CEO Quantum Loophole (JS): Quantum Loophole is excited to share the updates about our QLoop Network, a 40 +/- network ring that expands the Northern Virginia ecosystem by connecting it to the 2,100 acre data center development, Quantum Frederick, in under one millisecond.

DCP Q: This year’s Infrastructure Day (invite only) takes place on January 30. It is a closed-door session exploring such topics as the edge, 5G, and the next generation of edge networks. This is your opportunity to share your opinion on one (or all) of these topics, and how your company is positioned to support these trends and technologies.

JS A: We want to discuss the immense opportunities that are created when bringing over 200,000 strands of fiber to the Ashburn ecosystem. We are all aware of the constraints that the NoVA market faces. Quantum Frederick solves the problem with an adjacent location accessible in under 1 ms. We are doing so with land, power, connectivity and water – in abundance – to ensure the viability of long-term growth for this important market.

DCP Q: On January 31, the CEO panel will discuss  – in part – how the supply chain issues have affected their businesses – how has your company managed through these supply chain challenges, and have you adjusted your procurement strategies, forecasts and plans to adapt to the world’s new order?

JS A: Master planning offers the opportunity to make strategic long-term purchasing decisions that can help deleverage the risk of short-term supply chain issues. For example, in our design of a thousand-plus megawatt energy system we are able to place orders for transformers well in advance of needing the capacity.

DCP Q: ESG is a hot topic that is also on the agenda at Metro Connect USA 2023. What are your ESG plans and who are they tailored for (customers, prospects, investors, hyperscalers, etc.) – and are there any certifications, groups or initiatives you are part of to help your company achieve its goals?

JS A: It’s an exciting time in ESG reporting as businesses react to the paradigm shift from vague environmental goals to verified carbon accounting. With this transition in mind, our ESG program is a collaborative effort with our customers and the communities where we operate. We’re part of the iMasons Climate Accord, advocates of the Global Tree Initiative and big fans of regenerative design.

DCP Q: What else would you like for our readers to know that you haven’t already shared about your company?  (How to meet with you, what services/products/updates you are keen to share, or any other information you would like to opine on).

JS A: Quantum Loophole is doing things very differently – it’s pretty exciting and we are sharing as much as we can to inspire the industry about what is possible.  When complete, QLoop will contain in excess of thirty, 2-inch HDPE conduits placed at a depth designed to exceed security standards. On the Quantum Frederick campus, Quantum Loophole will be constructing a network of conduits to connect Quantum Frederick’s two planned network centers on its Maryland data center campus to QLoop. Quantum Loophole employs a dig-once approach. By placing the conduits all at once, QLoop will be able to support future campus expansions and increase speed to market for customers without disturbing the land along the route each time.

Quantum Loophole reimagines the site selection process for hyperscale and mass-scale data center developments. Its first project, in Frederick County Maryland, provides the digital infrastructure industry a 10-20 year road map inclusive of land, power, water and fiber network infrastructure.
