The Miami, Florida region is one of the densest fiber routes in the U.S., and is now a main interconnection point for traffic exchange with South America.
One provider that has been very active in the region is EdgeConneX, which recently announced its second Miami Edge Data Center (EDC). The new facility, Miami 2 EDC, is based on a business model built on transparency and consistency, and will provide the area with greater network peering diversity as it serves as an important gateway between markets in Latin America, South America and the Caribbean.
The facility will provide dark and lit fiber connections for local EdgeConneX customers, including service providers, wireless carriers, content delivery networks, enterprises and cloud providers. EdgeConneX has arrangements with multiple carriers for dark and lit fiber, as well as for out-of-band signaling and dedicated Internet access at the Miami 2 EDC.
These carriers currently include:
- AT&T
- CenturyLink
- Comcast Business
- Fiberlight
- FPL FiberNet
- NuVox
- Windstream
- XO Communications
Miami 2 EDC was deployed in consultation with anchor tenants to ensure the most efficient placement of their content and applications. The facility will feature high-density power in a highly reliable and redundant facility with up to 10MW, N+1 design. Furthermore, it will provide access to the region’s top subsea cable landing station for low-latency access to a number of cables including BDNSi, Americas II, COLUMBUS III, GlobeNet, MAYA-1, Mid-Atalantic Crossing (MAC) and SAm-1.
Miami 2 EDC is in Miami Gardens, just 10 miles north of the NAP of the Americas, and positioned outside of the downtown Miami flood zone, roughly 10 miles from Hollywood Beach.
“This is an ideal time to expand EdgeConneX’s presence in Miami,” explained Don MacNeil, Chief Technology Officer, EdgeConneX. “Other providers are running out of available space and power to service new customers or to meet the expansion requirements of existing customers. EdgeConneX selected this location in collaboration with customers and purpose-built the facility to offer better services and pricing than competitors. Our goal is to ensure that we are providing customers with diverse peering options, future scalability and a secure colocation facility that has the ability to deliver bandwidth-intensive content and applications with the lowest possible latency.”
