The Greenville South Carolina market just got a significant upgrade of its Data Center capabilities – the first Tier III data center in South Carolina is preparing to go on line later this year. On April 1, 2021, DC BLOX, a provider of interconnected multi-tenant data centers, broke ground on its new Tier III data center serving the entire Greenville-Spartanburg market. The multi-tenant facility will offer connections to DC BLOX’s carrier-grade mesh network connectivity ecosystem, connecting it to the DC BLOX portfolio of data centers in Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Chattanooga, TN; and Huntsville, AL. This first phase of construction is scheduled to be completed by the third quarter of 2021.
To mark the occasion, the executive team from DC BLOX was joined by the Governor of South Carolina, Henry McMaster, Senator, Lynsey Graham, and the Mayor of Greenville, Knox White, for a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony. Mayor White shared, “I believe this is central infrastructure for the 21st century, just as the railroads were for the 19th century, and the Interstate Highway System was for the mid 20th century, this is essential infrastructure for the digital economy and it’s really going to be catalytic … and I think it’ll be a turning point for us.”
Jeff Uphues, CEO of DC BLOX shared, “Greenville is such a wonderful market. We’re super excited about the impact of what we can make here and we have to say that the Greenville area, and how welcoming they’ve been, every business, every community leader that we’ve met, opens their arms and welcomes us to this community. And we’re going to do our best to support it through our technology and innovation center back behind me. This data center will be one of the unique properties anywhere in the state”.
This new data center facility is located on an 8.5-acre campus in the Global Business Park just off of Interstate 85. Once completed, the facility will be comprised of six data halls for a total of 54,000 square feet, capable of supporting 18MW of critical load. David Armistead, VP of Sales at DC BLOX said, “this is the level of IT infrastructure that this area has not seen before. Previously you would have to go to a major metropolitan area, like Atlanta or Charlotte because it didn’t exist for this level of data center with its connectivity. But now, Greenville has it, the Upstate has it, South Carolina has it, so it’s a pretty exciting time to be here.”
This facility will be an essential piece of infrastructure in the Southeastern US, where companies will benefit from the improved connectivity to global networks. The DC BLOX data center will offer connectivity, scalability, and accessibility like never before.
