According to the analyst firm Moody’s, Brazil is the largest telecom market in Latin America and the fifth-largest globally. Meanwhile, Argentina is home to one of the most developed broadband markets in South America, second only to Chile. As the demand for cloud, content and network services to and between these nations continues to grow, along with international organizations seeking connectivity options between North and South America, the development of an advanced, transoceanic subsea network and a sustainable solution for localized data delivery has taken center stage.
Seaborn Networks’ (“Seaborn”) ARBR subsea cable will connect Buenos Aires, Argentina with São Paulo, Brazil. Through an interconnection to Seaborn’s Seabras-1 subsea network connecting Brazil to the U.S., the ARBR submarine cable will also enable the newest and most direct route between Argentina and the U.S. To shore up connectivity and enhanced delivery of content, cloud and network services, Seaborn has selected the EdgeConneX® Buenos Aires Edge Data Center® (EDC) as the Point-of-Presence (PoP) in Argentina for Seaborn’s ARBR submarine cable. The PoP at the EdgeConneX Buenos Aires EDC will provide cross-connect opportunities for all EdgeConneX customers. The Ready-for-Service (RFS) date for the ARBR subsea cable system is H1 2019.
“We are pleased to establish a Point of Presence in the EdgeConneX Buenos Aires Edge Data Center that will serve our ARBR submarine cable in Argentina,” stated Larry Schwartz, Chairman and CEO of Seaborn Networks. “EdgeConneX has long recognized the need for Edge services across the globe as content delivery and cloud applications require localization and availability. The Buenos Aires Edge Data Center, which sits at the hub to hundreds of national and multinational companies at Parque Industrial Pilar, is the ideal facility at which to interconnect our new subsea cable system.”
Providing underserved regions in South America with high-quality, low-latency content delivery, cloud access and international interconnectivity in an N+1 facility, the multi-tenant Buenos Aires EDC offers customers a robust connectivity and peering platform comprised of extensive fiber, density and peering options along with a highly-interconnected ecosystem of industry partners.
“Through the introduction of cutting-edge technology, the Buenos Aires EDC will enhance economic growth throughout the region, and combined with connectivity to Seaborn’s ARBR subsea cable, will make Argentina a more attractive location for data investment by enterprises across a wide range of industries both domestically and globally,” commented Randy Brouckman, Chief Executive Officer of EdgeConneX about the announcement. “As we continue to expand the edge globally in partnership with subsea cable developers and owner-operators such as Seaborn Networks, EdgeConneX enhances the delivery of cloud, content and network services not only in Buenos Aires but for international organizations seeking to expand business opportunities and connectivity options between North and South America.”
