Start Campus, a company focused on designing, building and operating a new generation of sustainable data centers, has announced two key executive appointments to accelerate its go-to-market strategy and propel its next phase of growth. The announcement comes as the company prepares to break ground on the second building of its Portugal-based flagship SINES DC campus, which is one of Europe’s most ambitious and sustainable data center projects.
Omer Wilson, a veteran with over 25 years of experience in the technology and data center industries, has joined Start Campus as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO). Wilson’s appointment to the board brings a wealth of expertise from his previous roles, including his most recent position as CMO at Qarbon Technologies and leadership roles at Digital Realty and Pure Data Centres Group. In addition to Wilson’s appointment, José Luis Arnau has stepped into the role of Head of Sales. Arnau brings more than three decades of international business experience to Start Campus, most recently serving as Sales Director at Digital Realty. His background in leading negotiations with major telecommunications providers, hyperscalers, and enterprise clients positions him well to drive sales growth for the company.
These strategic hires come at a crucial time for Start Campus as it continues to develop its SINES DC project. With 1.2 GW of IT grid access fully secured, the SINES DC is poised to become Europe’s largest colocation site. The project’s innovative approach to sustainability, particularly its use of an ocean-water cooling system, is expected to set new benchmarks for power efficiency in the data center industry. The economic impact of the SINES DC project is substantial, with projections indicating an annual contribution of €1.2 billion to Portugal’s economy. Moreover, the development is anticipated to create thousands of jobs, positioning Portugal as a key player in Europe’s digital transformation.
With the demand for sustainable and efficient data center solutions rapidly growing, Start Campus has expanded its leadership team at a crucial juncture. As businesses and organizations increasingly rely on digital infrastructure, the need for data centers that can meet both performance and environmental requirements has never been more critical. As Start Campus moves forward with its ambitious plans, the additions of Wilson and Arnau to the team signals a new chapter in the company’s growth strategy. Their combined expertise in marketing, sales, and industry relationships is expected to play an essential role in attracting customers and partners to the SINES DC project.
As the SINES DC project progresses, it has the potential to serve as a model for future sustainable data center developments worldwide, demonstrating how technological advancement and environmental responsibility can go hand in hand. With these strategic appointments to its senior leadership team and its innovative approach to data center development, Start Campus is well-positioned to make a lasting impact on the digital infrastructure landscape in Europe and beyond.
