Sabey Data Centers has released its 2024 Sustainability Report, revealing a 25.2% reduction in Scope 1 and Scope 2 carbon emissions since 2018, even as the company’s overall electrical load has grown significantly. The report highlights progress toward Sabey’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2029 and details new collaborations shaping the future of sustainable digital infrastructure.

A Measurable Step Toward Net-Zero

The 2024 report outlines the actions Sabey has taken to reduce emissions and improve efficiency across its portfolio of more than four million square feet of mission-critical space. These include continued investment in carbon-free energy sources, optimizing building operations, and reducing emissions from HVAC and fuel systems.

Sabey’s reduction exceeds many industry benchmarks, reinforcing the company’s position as a leader in responsible energy management. Nine Sabey facilities have earned ENERGY STAR® certification with scores above 90, and five achieved a top-tier score of 99 out of 100, underscoring Sabey’s commitment to operational efficiency.

Partnering for a Sustainable Future

A key highlight of this year’s report is Sabey’s new memorandum of understanding (MOU) with TerraPower to explore the integration of next-generation nuclear technology into data center operations. This collaboration represents a forward-looking approach to addressing growing energy demands in a sustainable way while supporting regional power reliability and grid stability.

“Data centers are the backbone of the digital economy and AI revolution but must become stewards of global decarbonization,” said Casey Mason, Senior Energy and Sustainability Manager at Sabey Data Centers. “We are not just on track for net-zero by 2029, we are reimagining how critical digital infrastructure can be both scalable and sustainable.”

Transparency and Accountability

Sabey’s sustainability efforts follow the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, ensuring accurate, transparent reporting that aligns with recognized global standards. The company’s emissions reporting includes both location-based and market-based accounting methods, and results are verified through participation with external organizations such as CDP, GRESB, EcoVadis, and Atrius.

The 2024 report continues Sabey’s annual commitment to transparency and public accountability by providing measurable data and outlining the company’s next steps toward its 2029 net-zero target.

Building for a Climate-Secure Future

Sabey’s sustainability strategy underscores its belief that digital growth and environmental responsibility can move hand in hand. By coupling energy-efficient design with emerging clean energy technologies, the company aims to reduce the environmental impact of hyperscale growth while helping customers better understand and manage their own energy use.

As Sabey looks ahead, its partnerships, measurable progress, and continued investment in clean energy reflect a larger vision where data centers not only power innovation but also contribute to a more resilient and sustainable global infrastructure.
