The 2025 Mexico Connect conference brought together over 500 digital infrastructure and telecom leaders to map the future of cross-border connectivity, data centers, and digital innovation in Latin America. Over two days, attendees participated in high-level discussions focused on subsea and terrestrial cable growth, AI-driven demand, resilient energy strategies, and inclusive expansion across Mexico’s fast-evolving digital landscape.

The conference opened with remarks from Ismael Ortíz Fernández, Titular de la Unidad de Inteligencia Económica Global at the Secretaría de Economía de México. With over 30 years of experience in international trade negotiations and regional economic integration, Ortiz Fernández highlighted how Mexico’s government is advancing strategies to attract foreign investment and deepen global economic integration. His remarks set the stage for the conference by emphasizing the critical role of informed policy, partnership, and innovation in strengthening Mexico’s competitiveness in global digital infrastructure markets.

The conference agenda was packed with keynotes and panels from influential industry figures. Below are several of the highlighted speakers:

The dominant themes focused on cross-border connectivity with strategic discussions about major U.S.-Mexico fiber crossings such as Eagle Pass, Laredo, and McAllen, alongside the emergence of Querétaro as Mexico’s leading data center hub including the rising importance of sites in Monterrey, Guanajuato, Guadalajara, and other regions. Panels examined the integration of subsea and terrestrial networks, the rising complexity and capacity requirements sparked by AI and cloud computing, and ways the sector is addressing energy supply and sustainability in the face of record growth.

Innovation took center stage. Keynotes and case studies explored how partnerships such as Telcel’s with Netflix and Fermaca’s with Zayo are unlocking revenue and driving new services in areas like smart cities, fintech, agriculture, and IoT. Operators showcased advances from fiber network densification to automation and liquid cooling in data centers, as well as the integration of quantum and NaaS offerings for next-generation security and performance.

The conference also spotlighted digital equity initiatives aimed at closing Mexico’s connectivity divide. Sessions addressed bridging Mexico’s digital divide, leveraging satellite and low-latency fiber to expand rural internet access, and the importance of local operators and public-private partnerships in building universal connectivity.

Cybersecurity, energy resilience, and sustainable growth were recurring priorities. Thought leaders discussed how AI is reshaping risk, the push to embed ESG best practices across the supply chain, and the vital need for collaborative approaches to overcome regulatory and resource constraints.

Mexico Connect 2025 reinforced that dynamic collaboration and carefully planned growth are now essential to meet demand and ensure the sector’s positive impact. The conference closed with a clear message: Mexico’s digital infrastructure momentum is real and the players who prioritize resilient, inclusive, and sustainable strategies will define the regional future.
