In 2024, 1547 Critical Systems Realty advanced its strategic mission of enhancing digital connectivity through targeted infrastructure expansion and modernization. With a clear focus on serving emerging markets and addressing the unique demands of modern applications like artificial intelligence (AI) and high-performance computing, 1547 demonstrated its role as a key player in the industry. As 2025 gets underway, a look at these milestones offers valuable insight into the progress made and its ongoing impact on the digital infrastructure landscape.

South Bend, Indiana: Unlocking Regional Connectivity

1547’s acquisition of Union Station data center in South Bend marked a significant step in expanding access to high-quality digital infrastructure in the Midwest. Located on critical fiber routes, the facility bridges East Coast and Midwest markets, providing low-latency, high-bandwidth solutions to enterprises and hyperscalers.

As major cloud providers like AWS, Microsoft, and Google invest heavily in the region—AWS with an $11 billion data center campus and Microsoft acquiring nearly 940 acres in nearby Mishawaka—South Bend’s role as a key interconnection hub becomes even more critical. These developments highlight the region’s growing importance in digital infrastructure, further enhancing the value of 1547’s presence.

1547’s South Bend facility is undergoing a major expansion to significantly increase space and power capacity. The first phase of this expansion is set to go live in Q1 2026, with additional inventory from the second phase becoming available in Q1 2028. These upgrades will support growing enterprise and service provider demand, strengthening South Bend’s role as a key regional interconnection hub.

AlohaNAP, Kapolei: Expanding Pacific Interconnection

The AlohaNAP data center in Kapolei, Hawaii, saw significant enhancements in 2024, further cementing its role as a central hub for Pacific connectivity. With the addition of 2,000 square feet to its inland, high-security carrier hotel, the facility’s capabilities were expanded to support regional and international data traffic. A key highlight of this development was the inclusion of an AWS Direct Connect node, enabling seamless cloud integration for local and global clients.

Strategically located outside tsunami and weather risk zones, AlohaNAP offers unparalleled security and reliability. Plans to add 5-10 MW of utility power reflect the anticipated growth in subsea cable landings and edge requirements across the Pacific. As enterprises and service providers look to strengthen their presence in the region, AlohaNAP will continue to play an essential role in enabling robust, low-latency connectivity.Looking ahead, 1547, in partnership with Harrison Street, is expanding AlohaNAP with 10,300 square feet and 1.5 MW of additional capacity, with long-term plans to develop a multi-building data center campus. As subsea cable activity in the Pacific accelerates, these enhancements will strengthen AlohaNAP’s role as a key interconnection hub, providing enterprises and service providers with the infrastructure needed for secure, high-performance data exchange.
