The Netherlands is home to one of the most advanced European data center markets and also has the second-highest penetration of household broadband connections on the continent. Additionally, about one-third of all European data centers are now located in the Amsterdam metropolitan area.

Over the last several years, the Dutch Data Center Administration (DDA) has been working to enhance the profile of the country’s data center sector and spur economic growth. The DDA is an independent trade organization comprised of leading data centers in the Netherlands.

Just recently the DDA introduced its newest member, EdgeConneX®, a company that specializes in providing global data center solutions at the edge of the network.

“With the rise of the Internet of Things and 5G, EdgeConneX Edge Data Centers® (EDCs) will become more important than ever before,” explained Stijn Grove, Director, Dutch Data Center Association. “EdgeConneX is an international key player in this area, and I firmly believe it can strongly contribute to the Dutch data center sector and our position as the Digital Gateway to Europe. Together, we can make the Netherlands an even more powerful data center hub.”

EdgeConneX launched its first European (EDC) in Amsterdam in January, 2016. This EDC was purpose-built and strategically located to provide the fastest and shortest routes for cloud, content and application delivery to local enterprises, consumers and Internet customers across the Netherlands. Offering capabilities of 20+kW of power per cabinet and 6kW+ per square meter, the facility was positioned in close proximity to major network provider aggregation points.

Besides future expansion in Dublin and Amsterdam, EdgeConneX has 10 more regions under consideration across Europe.

Dick Theunissen, Managing Director EMEA, EdgeConneX, also commented on EdgeConneX’s addition to the DDA.

“By joining the Dutch Data Center Association, we become part of an association that’s dedicated to collaborating with data center industry experts, ensuring that the data center provider market continues to play a large part in the growth of the Dutch economy,” Theunissen stated. “We welcome the opportunity to be part of their programs on thought-leadership articles and events that educate the Dutch market on the importance of Edge Data Centers throughout the region, and look forward to working with the DDA team to share EdgeConneX’s capabilities to their members.  Just recently, we announced our fourth data center in Amsterdam, making this a pivotal time to become part of the DDA community.”

EdgeConneX specializes in offering power-dense, purpose-built Edge Data Center solutions that enable the fastest data delivery times to end-users. EdgeConneX has successfully built a new Edge of the Internet by designing and deploying facilities that are positioned closest to network provider aggregation points, thus ensuring the lowest latency delivery along with improved quality of service and security.
