Data Center POST interview with Steve Brown Managing Director of Datacenter People

By Managing Editor Ilissa Miller

Steve Brown is the Managing Director of Datacenter People, the leading recruitment company serving the datacenter industry worldwide – helping in the identification and engagement of hard-to-find datacenter professionals, both temporary and permanent, around the globe.

Steve works with data centre construction and engineering companies, colocation providers, cloud service providers and vendors supplying infrastructure (power, cooling, software) and IT technology to data centres recruiting for sales, marketing and management/director level positions. With over 35 years’ experience in technology and telecoms executive search and recruitment, Steve was Managing Director of his own multi-office IT recruitment company for 20 years. Prior to that he was the Sales Director for a mid-sized London based IT recruitment company, having started his recruiting career working for two of the largest European IT recruiters.

With ITW 2019 quickly approaching, we sat down to chat with Steve to talk about how Datacenter People is solving its customer problems and what’s on the horizon for the company.

Data Center POST, Ilissa Miller (DCP-IM) Question: Tell our readers about Datacenter People and some of the ways that you are making a difference for your customers?

Datacenter People, Steve Brown (DP-SB) Answer: Datacenter People is a recruitment company serving the data centre industry worldwide. We help data centers by identifying and engaging hard-to-find data centre professionals in a scarce market.

DCP-IM Q: What do you attribute to your company’s success?

DP-SB A: We come to the table with a deep understanding of the industry we are recruiting for and we keep that as a priority. Data centre focus, extensive network of data centre contacts, real data centre and recruiting experience fuels our ability to match people with responsibilities.

DCP-IM Q: What milestones did Datacenter People achieve in the past year and how will these developments help your company keep up with the demands of the quickly growing and ever-changing telecommunications industry?

DP-SB A: We established partnership in APAC to help with recruiting in local markets.  APAC market knowledge and language support is facilitating our efforts. You can’t separate people from their culture. It’s providing spectacular insight.

DCP-IM Q: What are you most looking forward to accomplishing over the next year? The next 3-5 years?

DP-SB A: Growth. We have expanded our team and we are growing our presence in US, APAC and EMEA.

DCP-IM Q: What do you think is the greatest challenge in the industry and how are you working to overcome it?

DP-SB A: There’s a shortage of young graduates coming through. As a result, Datacenter People is working with universities and colleges to make young people aware of the opportunities in the data centre, internet infrastructure and cloud engineering verticals.

DCP-IM Q: What would you like to accomplish at ITW 2019?

DP-SB A: Growing our network and the awareness of our presence within the industry

DCP-IM Q: Thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to chat, Steve. Steve and the Datacenter People will be attending ITW 2019 in Atlanta from June 23-26, 2019 at the Hyatt Regency and Marriott Marquis hotels.
