Why is virtualization so popular?
Virtualization is so popular because it delivers so many key IT and business goals. By isolating many physical factors of IT – like server location – from the services that are being delivered, it removes or reduces many of the cost aspects (e.g. server hardware acquisition, power, data center space, etc.), while improving agility (e.g. by allowing any application to run on any server, or provisioning a new IT service without waiting for new hardware installation). IT can use fewer physical servers, use what they have more efficiently, reduce power and floorspace use, reduce hardware and software spending, and improve the speed with which IT can deliver new servers, systems, and services to business users.
