Q&A with Data Center POST’s Contributing Editor, Kathy Xu
ServerLIFT Corporation CEO Ray Zuckerman recently spoke with Data Center POST about the company’s participation in Data Center World April 3-6 in Los Angeles. ServerLIFT will leverage the event to share its approach to improving server installation with industry leaders. Other topics discussed in this Q&A include ServerLIFT’s path to success, trends in the data center industry and upcoming developments in data center management.
Data Center POST, Kathy Xu (DCP-KX) Question: Tell our readers about your company. What do you do and what problems are you attempting to solve?
ServerLIFT Corporation, Ray Zuckerman (ServerLIFT-RZ) Answer: Data center managers are required to do more with less. They are faced with data center migrations, consolidations, equipment refreshes and limited resources. We strive to make their jobs easier by allowing them to rack and move equipment with only one person, quickly and safely. More specifically, ServerLIFT devices enable them to swap out a 500-pound chassis, lift equipment up to the top of the rack or go as low as a near-floor install. They maneuver through tight aisles and allow you to go from unboxing to installed in a matter of minutes.
DCP-KX Q: What do you attribute your company’s success to?
ServerLIFT-RZ A: Constant feedback. We have designed our lifts, from their original conception, based on real data center experiences. Every feature has been designed and refined based on real world scenarios. We have a strong commitment to making lifting heavy data center equipment safer and more efficient.
DCP-KX Q: How do you see the data center industry evolving?
ServerLIFT-RZ A: The biggest trend we see is that data centers are consolidating and using less physical hardware. They’re moving away from large, physical infrastructures to smaller, virtualized servers. This can include either cloud-based or hybrid models. Additionally, they are packing more equipment into a smaller rack space, as servers become lighter with solid state drives.
DCP-KX Q: What new developments are on the horizon for your company?
ServerLIFT-RZ A: We are constantly developing new ways to make populating servers into racks safer and more efficient. We’re partnering with industry-leading companies to gain insight and stay on the cutting edge of technology.
DCP-KX Q: What would you like to accomplish at Data Center World?
ServerLIFT-RZ A: We would like data center managers to be aware there is a better way to lift heavy equipment than just manpower. Their employees deserve to be able to perform their jobs quickly, efficiently, and without the risk of injury.
DCP-KX: Thank you for your time and best of luck at Data Center World.
