Data Center POST recently spoke with ZENEDGE’s Co-Founder and Chief Technology Officer Leon Kuperman about the launch of the company’s Single IP Protection, and what ZENEDGE is hoping to accomplish at HostingCon. The conference, taking place between July 24-27 at the Ernest N. Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, is the largest gathering of the hosting and cloud services community in the world.
Q and A with Data Center Post’s Contributing Editor, Kathy Xu
Data Center POST, Kathy Xu (DCP-KX) Question: Tell our readers about ZENEDGE. What do you do and what key differentiators set ZENEDGE apart from other companies in the marketplace?
ZenEdge, Leon Kuperman (ZENEDGE-LK) Answer: Leveraging its trusted, cloud-based, globally distributed platform, its patent-pending monitoring and mitigation technology, and its unparalleled expertise in cyberattack mitigation, ZENEDGE provides organizations with an enterprise-class, managed white-glove cybersecurity service to help secure their web sites, web applications, and networks against vulnerabilities and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks. Unlike other Web Application Security solutions in the market, ZENEDGE leverages patent-pending deep machine-learning capabilities to detect anomalies, dynamically alter security postures, and initiate auto-mitigation and automatic routing with minimal to zero human intervention. This allows the company to provide better cybersecurity and faster time to mitigation than traditional cloud and on-premise cybersecurity vendors.
We believe that the world is desperately short of cybersecurity talent and today’s status-quo is not sustainable. Our goal is to leverage machine learning to automate the cybersecurity defense cycle, to ultimately reduce the security hardening cycle for web applications from weeks to days, freeing experts to focus on performing sophisticated analysis rather than low level repetitive tasks.
DCP-KX Q: How does the ZENEDGE Single IP Protection work and what problems does it solve?
ZENEDGE-LK A: Organizations who want to take advantage of ZENEDGE Single IP Protection will be assigned a DDoS-protected IP address range from the ZENEDGE IP pool. A GRE tunnel will be established to route traffic between the organization’s servers and the ZENEDGE protected IP network. Finally, a simple DNS change will advertise the new DDoS protected IP addresses to the world. All incoming traffic will then flow through ZENEDGE’s network, ensuring an always-on, DDoS protected environment. Once an organization is leveraging ZENEDGE Single IP Protection, outages as a result of DDoS attacks are a thing of the past.
DCP-KX Q: Why was it important to announce the availability of ZENEDGE Single IP Protection at HostingCon?
ZENEDGE-LK A: We believe hosting companies have lots of small customers who do not own a full class C subnet or their own router configuration and nevertheless still need DDoS protection. Hosting companies can partner up with ZENEDGE to provide Single IP DDoS protection to their customers under a revenue share model.
DCP-KX Q: What do you hope you accomplished at HostingCon?
ZENEDGE-LK A: We believe our cloud-based, multi-tenant, white-label-ready DDoS and WAF solution is a natural fit for hosting companies to one, protect themselves from DDoS attacks and two, upsell the ZENEDGE DDoS and WAF services to their customers. HostingCon provides us with the right audience to tell our story, make introductions and establish new partnerships.
DCP-KX: Thank you for your time and best of luck at HostingCon 2016! Readers, if you are interested in learning more about ZENEDGE, please visit https://www.zenedge.com/.
