As investment in cloud computing, digital services and AI continues to drive data centre growth, the need for skilled professionals capable of supporting critical digital infrastructure is growing alongside it.
Datalec Precision Installations (DPI) is helping build that talent pipeline by welcoming 12 new apprentices to its workforce as part of the second cohort of its apprenticeship programme. The initiative provides young people with a direct pathway into the data centre industry through a combination of hands-on experience, formal training and structured career development.
The new apprentices will begin their careers across a range of technical and operational disciplines, working alongside experienced DPI professionals on projects supporting mission-critical environments throughout the UK.
As data centres play an increasingly important role in the UK’s digital economy, developing the workforce needed to build and support that infrastructure has become an industry-wide priority. DPI’s apprenticeship programme is designed to help address that skills challenge while creating meaningful, long-term career opportunities for young people.
“Apprenticeships provide an outstanding route into our industry, enabling individuals to earn while they learn and develop practical skills within a real working environment,” said Danny Turley, Learning & Development Manager at DPI. “As demand for digital infrastructure continues to grow, investing in future talent has never been more important.”
Through the programme, apprentices receive mentorship, structured on-the-job learning and exposure to a wide range of disciplines across the business. This approach provides participants with technical expertise, professional qualifications and transferable skills that can form the foundation for long-term careers within the sector.
DPI’s industry partners are also supporting this year’s cohort from day one. Edmundson Electrical has supplied professional tools for the apprentices, while Safety Signs has provided PPE and uniforms.
With continued investment in emerging talent, DPI is helping develop the next generation of skilled professionals equipped to build, install and support the critical digital infrastructure underpinning modern business and society.
The programme currently has an apprenticeship retention/completion rate of 100%, with seven business departments participating, demonstrating DPI’s commitment to integrating apprenticeship opportunities across its operations.
