What are you looking forward to at Women in Tech Texas?

Apart from inspiring and thought-provoking talks and workshops, I am looking forward to connecting with other women in tech in the Texas area and getting to know their challenges and triumphs in their respective careers.

What would be your advice to other women in tech who are coming up in the industry?

While doing great work is necessary for success, it is insufficient. There are softer aspects of work that we need to master to set us apart from the crowd. These include finding mentorship, sponsorship, learning to have and respect boundaries, preventing burnout, negotiation, prioritization, etc. I highly encourage everyone to seek resources and take charge of their careers to get ahead.

Women in Tech Texas is built on community; what advice would you give to our attendees on building your network and furthering your presence?

Connect with women during the event in person if possible. If a speaker touched on something you care about, connect with them on LinkedIn and let them know how they influenced you. Don’t make this a one-time connection. Reach out to them regularly and keep in touch. You could even ask for mentorship if you think they can help you. More women are usually willing to help. If you ask, there is a 50% chance for the answer to be ‘Yes’, if you don’t, it is a 100% ‘no’.
