This case study, outlining how the City of Bastrop, TX, partnered with FiberLight to accomplish its renewed digital ability, highlights dark fiber and Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) as important components of achieving efficient, innovative and proactive services for residents and businesses. In the case of Bastrop, limited fiber access was creating barriers to local government service and connectivity, meaning that the City’s growing footprint — and the new businesses, vendors and individuals that reside there — couldn’t be adequately supported with the digital capabilities they require. The City of Bastrop’s existing dark fiber network ring needed to be augmented to support expanding connectivity requirements from public libraries, vendors, residents and businesses for robust redundancy, reliability, bandwidth, geographic reach and fiber access.
FiberLight was chosen as Bastrop’s digital transformation partner due to their history of partnership, adding three new 1Gbps Enhanced Dedicated Internet Access (DIA) fiber circuits to the existing fiber ring to meet both long-term growth requirements and immediate needs. This capacity, distributed to Bastrop’s city hall, convention center, library, vendors and more, enables the fiber ring to offer robust access to redundant, scalable and high-capacity connectivity. This addition seamlessly integrated with the two-strand dark fiber ring that FiberLight had previously implemented in Bastrop in January 2019 for the local Economic Development Corporation.
