By Neil Cresswell, CEO, VIRTUS Data Centres

In June, VIRTUS Data Centres announced that a significant investment had been made in the company by ST Telemedia, a Singapore-based global investor focused on building and growing innovative communications, media and technology businesses.

Under the partnership, ST Telemedia has committed to a 49 per cent stake in VIRTUS via a joint venture with our existing owner Brockton Capital.  The new investment from ST Telemedia will be used to fund VIRTUS’ continued growth and footprint expansion in the UK.

ST Telemedia has a track record of successfully building, growing and transforming businesses into market leaders with diverse investments and operations spanning the Asia-Pacific region, the Americas and Europe. It is a pioneer in data centres, with experience dating back to the late 1990s.

Following the announcement, the past two months at VIRTUS have been a whirlwind. We have rounded out a record sales quarter as well as a half-year, which has enabled us to start building out Phase 2 of our LONDON2 data centre ahead of schedule. In addition, the news of our new investor has generated a lot of media and customer interest, and I’m pleased to say that it’s all overwhelmingly positive.

VIRTUS has experienced rapid growth in the last five years with increasing customer demand for our innovative and high quality services.  The addition of ST Telemedia to our existing relationship with Brockton Capital will support our growth plans to expand our data centre footprint and services in key markets.

We have a great track record offering innovative advanced solutions and products, with our Operations team constantly looking at new and exciting technology developments in the spheres of data centre efficiency and connectivity, trying to bring these benefits to our customers in the coming months and years.

Being part of a wider global group also makes this more interesting; as our development team have also been looking at accelerating work on our next development projects for LONDON3 and LONDON4 and we hope to have some news on those fronts soon.

It’s exciting to form a partnership with a global organisation with the pedigree and track record of ST Telemedia. Its experience and reach, in particular its growing Asian portfolio with the likes of GDS in China and its data centre platform in Singapore, will hugely benefit our customers.

Watch this space – exciting times lay ahead.
